I have had two different experiences learning new languages with a program online. These experiences were Duolingo & Rosetta. Rosetta is a lot better at actually building the foundation of language in my experience, due to its emphasis on pictures rather than to the user's native tounge. However, it's not perfect. The desktop version until recently was programmed in the flash standard, which is being retired next year. It annoys me, but it's working. I'm only on lesson 4, so I'll see how it develops. It's definitely a quality app, but it's one of those immersion type methods. It's just not my favorite way. I like to learn some nouns, some verbs, some adjectives, pronouns, etc. and then go through those over and over again with the different tenses. Then add some more words and do it over again. It's tedious but for me it's massively effective. Taught myself a ton of German in 3 months that way.Sep 17, 2024 14:39:28

This app is overall a solid one so far! I'm really enjoying learning new languages! Only one concern with the latest version: when I go through a unit to tap the review lesson from core lesson 1 in easy access mode, it brings me to the review lesson for core lesson 2. This is a bug that was never fixed in later versions. I'm looking for consistency, and I'll gladly remove this criticism once the issue is resolved.Sep 16, 2024 22:13:23

Best language app I've ever used! The app layout is super easy to navigate. The lessons are challenging (in a good way!) and actually help you grow your comprehension better than just throwing vocab at you. The high res pictures are pretty but also very helpful. So far I've been impressed overall with Rosetta Stone's structure and methods. I do have a somewhat major complaint though where I think the app could and should be improved. On the speaking sections that require you to comprehend what's happening in a picture to say what the app wants, it should give you some time to process what it wants you to say before it listens for an answer. The app is quite bad, really! It looks a lot like a shrunken version of your website, maybe a webview. But lacks a few refinements to reach an functional level, i.e.: The texts get tiny sometimes, whenever a button is inside a card (both clickable/actionable) it is quite hard to touch the button without touching on the card (and triggering a unintendet action).
